Myth: you need a PageSpeed score of 100
Good news first — this one's easier than it sounds. PageSpeed Insights (Google's free speed checker) shows a 0-100 score in a colored circle, and folks chase that 100 like a prize.
Here's the correction: that score is a lab estimate from one test run on a simulated phone. Google's actual ranking signal is your Core Web Vitals (the three speed-and-stability measurements) from real visitors — the "Passed" badge, not the number.
How to refocus:
— Scroll past the circle to the "Discover what your real users are experiencing" panel at the top.
— Check if it says "Passed." That's the part Google uses.
— A site can score 85 and still pass perfectly.
Try this: aim for green checkmarks on real-user data, and let the 100 go. Think of it like a practice exam score versus your real grade.
