The 4-Level Moderation Ladder
Mods burn out because they improvise every conflict. Give them a ladder so the response is the same no matter who's on shift.
The escalation SOP:
☐ Level 1 — public nudge: a light, named correction in-thread ("let's keep it on topic")
☐ Level 2 — private DM: one warning, logged, with the specific rule cited
☐ Level 3 — timeout: 24–72h mute, member told the exact return condition
☐ Level 4 — removal: ban, logged with reason, no debate in public
The trigger to jump a level: repetition or harm, never tone alone.
Log every action in one shared doc — date, member, level, reason. The log is what makes mods consistent and protects you when someone claims unfair treatment.
Write the ladder before you need it. Mid-conflict is the worst time to invent policy.
Save this for your next launch.
