The renewal-cost trap
A quick spreadsheet sanity check before you hoard:
— A 200-name portfolio at $10/yr is $2,000/yr just to stand still.
— At a realistic 1-2% sell-through per year, you need ~3 sales averaging ~$700 just to cover renewals.
— Premium-renewal names (some new gTLDs) can carry $40-90/yr each — model that separately.
📌 Pick of the day: tag every name with its true renewal cost, then prune the bottom 10% before each renewal wave instead of auto-renewing blind.
Why it matters: carrying cost, not acquisition price, is what quietly eats domainer margins. The math is the strategy.
