We classified the top 10 results for 900 "best X" queries by page type. Intent distribution = the share of result types Google chose to rank.
— Pure listicle SERPs: 52 percent
— Mixed (listicle + product + video): 34 percent
— Single-merchant dominated: 9 percent
— Forum-heavy: 5 percent
When a SERP is mixed, Google has not settled on one format, which means a well-built listicle can still break in late. So what: a mixed-intent result is an opening, not a wall. Target the 34 percent where format is unresolved before chasing the locked-in 52 percent.
