The 99.9% guarantee that pays you in pennies
Myth: "They guarantee 99.9% uptime, so downtime costs them."
Read the SLA. 99.9% permits 43 minutes of downtime a month — that's the promise, not the floor. Breach it and the "penalty" is a service credit equal to the hours you were down: a $10/mo plan owes you cents.
Meanwhile your store lost a day of sales. The credit doesn't cover that. It can't even be cashed out — it's account credit toward the host you now want to leave.
Follow the money: an SLA that caps the host's liability at a coffee's worth isn't a guarantee, it's an insurance policy for them.
Reality: uptime SLAs protect the host's downside, never yours.
