The content context problem with cheap niche edit services.

The content context problem with cheap niche edit services.

When you buy a niche edit from a link marketplace at $30-80, here's what usually happens:

The seller finds a paragraph on a random article, wedges in a sentence referencing your site, and calls it a contextual link. The surrounding content has nothing to do with your niche. The insertion reads awkwardly. The editor clearly just dropped it in.

Google's systems are trained to detect this pattern. Unnatural link insertion with no surrounding topical coherence is one of the signals their algorithms have been refining for years.

What actually works: find articles where your target topic is genuinely adjacent to what the article covers. Then pitch the site owner with a specific suggestion — "paragraph 4 mentions X, and this resource on Y would add value for your readers."

That takes 10x more effort per link. It also produces links that compound over time instead of getting devalued in the next algorithm update.

Links should make sense editorially before they make sense financially.
