Replacement Content Recovery SOP
Before you pitch a dead link, recover what it said. Matching intent beats guessing.
1 — Pull the dead URL into the Wayback Machine; grab the last 200-status snapshot.
2 — Extract H1, sub-headings, and word count into your sheet.
3 — Classify intent: tool, guide, statistic, definition, or list.
4 — Match against your existing content. No match? Route to content-gap backlog.
5 — QA gate: your replacement must cover the same intent class, not just the same keyword.
Automation fits at step 1 — the Wayback CDX API returns the closest live snapshot by timestamp in one call.
Definition of done: each dead target has a recovered intent label and either a matched URL or a backlog ticket.
