RPO is how much data you're willing to lose (an hour? a day?). RTO is how long you're willing to be down. Everything else is decoration.
Most people back up nightly and call it a strategy. That's a silent decision to lose up to 24 hours of orders, signups, and revenue. You didn't choose that number, your cron default did.
Pick the numbers first. Then build backwards. Frequency, retention, and offsite copies all fall out of those two letters.
No RTO/RPO = no plan. Change my mind.
