Q: How do I set my cookie window and attribution rules deliberately?
The cookie window is how long after a click a sale still credits the partner. Decide it with a process:
— Pull your real buying cycle from analytics. Time from first touch to purchase. If most buy within 7 days, a 90-day cookie just pays for sales you'd close anyway.
— Pick last-click as your default attribution. It's the industry norm and the easiest to defend in disputes.
— Decide how affiliate clicks interact with your own paid and email channels. Set whether a partner click beats a later branded-search click, and document it.
— Define the coupon and last-click conflict now. Coupon sites often grab last click on sales others sourced.
The caveat: a longer window isn't generosity, it's cost. Every extra day widens the chance you pay commission on a customer who found you elsewhere. Start tighter than feels comfortable; you can always extend for proven content partners as a reward.
