eventStatus and eventAttendanceMode: the post-pandemic fields that stuck
Google added
eventStatus
(scheduled/cancelled/postponed/rescheduled) and
eventAttendanceMode
(online/offline/mixed) during the lockdown scramble, and unlike a lot of pandemic-era additions, they're now permanent eligibility requirements for event rich results.
The gotcha — a cancelled or rescheduled event MUST be marked, not deleted. Drop the page and you orphan inbound links; leave stale 'scheduled' markup on a moved event and you can get an eligibility warning. For online events,
location
must be a
VirtualLocation
with a real
url
, not a physical address.
What it means for you — if you run webinars, conferences, or hybrid events, these two fields are non-negotiable. Maintain status on the live page through the event's lifecycle.
Watch this: hybrid-event markup feeds AI 'what's happening near me / online' answers.
