Q: I have authority in one niche, should I broaden or go deeper?
Short answer: go deeper before you go wider, and when you do expand, expand into adjacent topics, not random ones. Authority is topic-specific; jumping to an unrelated subject starts the trust-building from zero and can muddy what your site is "about."
Engines reward focus. A site known for one topic that suddenly sprawls across five looks less like an authority and more like a content farm.
In practice:
— First, make sure your existing cluster is genuinely complete (every subtopic covered, gaps closed).
— Then expand via a bridge: pick a topic that shares entities and audience with your core. If you own "running shoes," "running injury prevention" is a natural bridge; "home insurance" is not.
— Build the new cluster with the same depth, not a few token posts.
Deciding where to expand? Send your niche and I'll suggest bridges.
