How to catch an affiliate program migration before your links quietly lose attribution
An acquisition or network migration can change tracking, commission rules, approvals, and payouts while the brand stays the same. Treat every transition as an operational risk. Common signals include a new dashboard or login domain, changed tracking parameters, disappearing deep links, rewritten terms, or support moving to a different network.
When one appears, preserve your baseline:
1. Export active links, sub IDs, creatives, and top pages.
2. Save the current terms and conversion path.
3. Build one test link in the new system.
4. Check click capture, attribution, reporting, reversals, and payment status.
5. Compare blocked traffic and approval rules before moving volume.
Do not replace every link at once. Test a representative slice while both paths are measurable, then compare conversion rate, approval rate, EPC, and tracking loss. A weaker report may indicate broken attribution; stable tracking with worse terms is a commercial issue.
Keep a migration log with link inventory, test results, confirmed changes, and an owner for each action. It turns a vague warning into an auditable decision and gives you a repeatable fallback when the next program moves.
