A: This is a classic trap. Your server may be in one place, but your users and the internet between them are not. A single checking location means a network problem near that one probe, a peering dispute, a regional routing glitch, reads as a global outage. You'll get paged for an outage that no real user is experiencing.

The myth is that server location should match monitor location. What matters is matching where your users are.

Recommendation: check from at least three geographically spread locations and only declare downtime when a majority agree. That single change kills the most common category of false positive.
