Q: How do I set up traffic scrubbing without nuking my good leads?

Q: How do I set up traffic scrubbing without nuking my good leads?

A: Scrubbing (filtering out junk traffic before it counts) is layered, not a single switch. Build it in stages:

— Layer 1, hard blocks: drop known data-center IPs, blacklisted ranges, and obvious bad user-agents. These are safe to kill outright.
— Layer 2, soft scoring: assign a risk score to the rest (geo mismatch, no JS, weird timing) instead of blocking. Watch before you cut.
— Layer 3, threshold tuning: run a week in log-only mode. See what the filter WOULD have blocked, then check if any were real conversions.
— Layer 4, set the cut line: block only the score band where junk concentrates and conversions are near zero.
— Layer 5, recheck monthly: traffic shifts, so your thresholds drift.

Never go straight to aggressive blocking — you'll bleed good leads.

Short version: hard-block the obvious, score the gray, log before you cut, tune monthly.
