How to build a monthly supply-path scorecard your team will actually use
SPO decays without monitoring — paths you cut creep back and new resellers appear. Here's a repeatable monthly scorecard to keep it honest.
1. Define the unit of analysis as the path: (publisher domain, SSP, seller_id). Everything aggregates to this row.
2. For each path, track five columns month over month: spend, win rate, median clearing price, supply-chain node count, and an inventory-quality composite (viewability + invalid-traffic rate).
3. Compute a single working-media efficiency per path — quality-adjusted impressions per dollar — so paths rank on outcome, not volume.
4. Flag three exception lists automatically: new paths that appeared this month, paths whose node count grew (a direct deal that sprouted a reseller), and paths whose efficiency dropped more than 15%.
5. Cross-check every active path's seller_id against the current sellers.json; flag any newly unverified.
6. Each month, throttle the bottom-ranked exceptions and document the decision so the scorecard has memory.
Why it matters: Supply paths are not a one-time cleanup but a living system that publishers and SSPs constantly reshape underneath you. A disciplined month-over-month scorecard turns SPO from a heroic quarterly project into a routine that catches reseller creep and quality decay while they're still small — which is the only way the gains actually persist.
