Myth: post when the most people are online

Myth: post when the most people are online

Every "best time to post" guide chases peak concurrent users. The engagement data suggests peak is often the worst time.

What the data shows
When you normalize reach per post, posting into the highest-concurrency window frequently lowers per-message visibility: that's also when everyone else posts, so your message is buried fastest and scrolls out of view in minutes. Several reach analyses find better per-post engagement in the shoulder hours — rising or falling activity — where message half-life is longer.

Why it happens
Visibility is a function of competition, not just audience size. A large online audience that's also flooded with content can yield less attention per item than a smaller, less-crowded one.

The caveat
This depends heavily on feed mechanics. Telegram channels show posts chronologically with long shelf life, muting the effect; a fast Discord channel amplifies it. "Best time" is platform-specific and content-specific — generic charts are nearly worthless.

Open question: as more communities adopt algorithmic or pinned-priority feeds, does "timing" matter at all anymore, or does it collapse into "quality and saves"?
