Reddit glossary: 6 terms every marketer should understand before posting
Karma is your account’s credibility score, built through upvotes on posts and comments. It is not a permission slip to promote. Build it by answering specific questions, adding examples, and joining discussions where your experience is relevant.
An AMA (Ask Me Anything) is a structured Q&A, often used by founders or specialists. Prepare proof, clear boundaries, and useful answers before inviting questions. Treat it as a conversation, not a product pitch.
A shadowban limits visibility without an obvious account suspension. A mod queue is different: your post is waiting for moderator review. If a post disappears, check your profile while logged out, read the subreddit rules, and contact moderators once rather than reposting repeatedly.
A crosspost shares an existing post to another subreddit, but the new community’s rules still apply. Flair labels the post type, such as Discussion, Question, or Promotion. Choose the correct flair and tailor the title to that subreddit instead of copying it blindly.
Learn the vocabulary first, then study each community’s rules and culture. On Reddit, context earns attention long before promotion does.
