Raw Footage SOP: Cull Before You Edit, Always
Editing from unsorted raw is where hours die. Standardize the cull step and your edit time drops by a third.
Step 1. Immediately after shooting, dump everything into
02_Raw
.
Step 2. First pass — flag selects only. One favorite take per hook, per angle. Don't edit, just flag.
Step 3. Move flagged selects into a
Selects
subfolder; leave the rest untouched as backup.
Step 4. Edit only from Selects. If you reach for an unflagged clip, you flagged wrong — fix the system, not the habit.
Step 5. Archive full raw for the rights window, then purge to free storage.
Cull first, edit second, never both at once. Save this two-pass system. Rinse and repeat after every shoot.
