<b>The alert that turned a court ruling into 17 links</b>

It was 4:40pm on a Friday — the graveyard of news cycles — when a data-privacy ruling came down. Most PR teams had logged off. Ours had an alert set for exactly this.

We monitored a small set of regulatory feeds specifically so we'd hear rulings the moment they published, not when the news broke. The ruling was technical and most reporters wouldn't grasp the business impact by deadline.

Our client, a compliance-software founder, could translate it instantly. We sent a plain-English explainer of what the ruling meant for ordinary companies to 20 journalists by 5:05pm — while the courthouse copy was still being typed.

Being first and being clear were the whole play. A tech reporter scrambling on a Friday afternoon used our founder's explanation wholesale: "You saved my evening. This is exactly the context I didn't have time to find."

That gratitude propagated. The clear explainer got quoted across weekend coverage as other outlets caught up and needed the same translation.

Result: 17 links over the weekend, most from reporters who'd never heard of the client before 5pm Friday.

<b>Lesson:</b> The best newsjacking happens when newsrooms are thinnest and most grateful. Set the alert for the moments everyone else has clocked off.
