How to read a recurring program's terms page in 5 minutes
New to recurring? The fine print is where the real deal hides. Here's a calm walkthrough so you never get surprised.
Recurring commission means you earn a cut every month the customer keeps paying, not just once.
1. Find the word recurring or lifetime. If it's missing, assume it's one-time.
2. Find the duration: "12 months" vs "for the life of the account." These are very different.
3. Find the percentage and whether it drops after year one.
4. Find the payout threshold (the minimum before they pay you).
5. Find the cookie window (how long your link is remembered).
In plain English: confirm it pays every month, for how long, at what rate.
Worked example: 20% recurring, 12-month limit, on a $30/mo plan = $6/mo, but only for a year ($72 total per customer).
Today's tiny action: open one program's terms and write those 5 numbers on a sticky note.
