Hiding behind a big CDN means renting their conscience too
Hot take: routing your operation through a major infrastructure provider for "protection" just means your kill switch now lives at a company with a trust-and-safety department and a press team.
The comparison gets framed as performance and resilience: big provider versus your own origin. The buried variable is policy exposure. The bigger and more reputable the intermediary, the faster they'll cut you to protect their own brand the moment a complaint lands. Your own origin is fragile and noisy — but nobody at your origin is going to deplatform you to look good in a blog post.
Protection from outages isn't protection from the host.
