Spotted this working repeatedly when the SERP intent screams steps but Google still serves prose. Run it top to bottom:

— Confirm the query carries an ordinal or process signal (how to, steps, ways, checklist).
— Add a clean H2 phrased as the query, then an ordered or unordered list directly beneath, no paragraph buffer between.
— Keep 5-8 items. Boxes truncate around 8, so front-load the strongest.
— Each item: 1 short line. Strip sub-bullets — they break extraction.
— Mirror the list logic in an H3 above so the crawler reads intent twice.

Why it matters: format mismatch is the single most common reason you rank top-3 but lose the box. Reportedly fixes in one crawl cycle.
