Rate cut in an affiliate program: update the pages that leak the most value first
When a commission drops, don’t rewrite the whole site. Start with pages that already send traffic and have the strongest intent: money pages, top comparison posts, and high-ranking reviews. These pages can lose the most revenue per click, so they deserve the fastest pass.
Check the pages in this order:
• exact-match “best” and “vs” articles
• reviews with the highest outbound click rate
• pages that rank for branded or transactional queries
• internal hub pages that push users into the cut offer
For each page, update three things: the offer mention, the CTA text, and the fallback path. If the old program no longer fits, move the link to a close substitute, or change the recommendation angle so the page still solves the same search intent. Do not leave old copy in the intro and only swap the button.
Then scan supporting content. FAQs, tables, sidebars, and link modules often keep sending visitors to the cut program long after the main article is fixed. That creates mixed signals and wastes traffic. Clean those blocks next, then move to lower-traffic posts that still rank and bring assisted conversions.
Rule of thumb: fix pages by revenue exposure, not by publish date. The fastest gain is usually in the few pages that already do the work, not in the long tail.
