Same-day deadlines vs. far-off ones: pick your battles
Every query carries a deadline, and that single detail should change which ones you answer first. Beginners often reply to whichever they see first. Sort by deadline instead.
1. Same-day deadline — high urgency, fewer competitors (many sources skip them), so your odds per pitch are good if you move now.
2. Far-off deadline — more time to craft, but also more replies pile up, and reporters sometimes forget which sources they liked.
Think of it like a sale. The flash sale ending tonight has less of a crowd than the one running all month.
The tactic: when you have limited time, prioritize the closest deadlines you can genuinely answer well. Speed plus relevance on an urgent query beats a polished reply to one due next week.
Try this today: sort your queries by deadline and answer the soonest one you actually qualify for.
