Geo Pulse #57 — Rank trackers for local vs national GEO targeting
This week: tracking 'rank in Spain' and 'rank in Madrid 3km radius' are different jobs.
— National-grid trackers (Ahrefs, Semrush position tracking) → great for country-level organic, but they sample from one location per country and miss local-pack variance entirely.
— Geo-grid tools (Local Falcon, GeoRanker) → plot rank across a map grid, the only honest way to see local-pack performance that shifts block by block.
— Maps/GBP-focused (BrightLocal, Whitespark) → built for the local pack and citations; use when the money is in Google Business Profile, not blue links.
— Manual uule spot-checks → free verification layer when you suspect a tool's 'local' node isn't really local.
Rule: if the SERP shows a map pack, a national tracker is lying to you by omission — go geo-grid.
