Moved a blog off subdomain, traffic doubled
Client ran blog.theirsite.com. The whole blog's authority was firewalled from the money pages because to Google a subdomain is a different property.
What I did:
— Migrated every post to theirsite.com/blog/
— 301'd each old subdomain URL one-to-one
— Rebuilt internal links so posts pointed to commercial pages and vice versa
— Kept the old subdomain alive only to serve redirects
Now blog link equity flows straight into category and product pages. Same content, one consolidated domain, way stronger.
Watch the redirects: map every single post by hand. A blanket redirect of the whole subdomain to /blog/ homepage loses every post's individual ranking. One-to-one or don't bother.
