If disavow "worked instantly," it wasn't the disavow
The myth: upload the file, rankings bounce back within days.
Reality: disavowed links only get reprocessed as Google re-crawls each one — which can take weeks to months, link by link. There's no switch. Anyone reporting a recovery 48 hours after uploading watched something else move.
Actually, this timeline is itself evidence against most disavow case studies. A profile of 10,000 links doesn't recrawl overnight. So the "instant lift" people cite is mechanically impossible to be the disavow.
That fast "recovery" is a core update, a deindexed thin page, or pure noise getting misattributed.
Reality check: real disavow effects are slow and boring. Instant ones are coincidence.
