API access: the power-user feature buried in pricing tables

API access: the power-user feature buried in pricing tables

If you script, the API turns a scheduler into infrastructure. Most lock it behind top tiers.

API availability
✔ Buffer: API exists, decent for custom queueing, free-ish to apply
✔ Hootsuite: full API but enterprise-gated
✔ Sprout: API on Advanced/Enterprise only
✖ Later, Planoly: essentially no public scheduling API

What you'd build: pull posts from a CMS/Airtable, auto-generate captions, push to queue — no manual paste. This is how content teams scale past human bandwidth.

The cheaper alternative: Make/Zapier connectors cover 80% of API use cases without enterprise pricing. Buffer + Make is a common stack.

Pricing: Buffer from $6/channel, Make free tier covers light automation.

Best for: Buffer + Make if you want programmatic posting on a budget.

Pick the API path only if you genuinely script. Otherwise a Zapier bridge is cheaper and good enough.
