Turning on lazy loading the safe way
Lazy loading means an ad's auction only runs when the visitor scrolls near it, saving speed and unseen requests.
The steps:
— 1. Pick your below-the-fold slots first — never the ad people see instantly.
— 2. Set the trigger distance to about one screen-height before the slot.
— 3. Confirm the auction fires only on scroll, in the Network tab.
— 4. Watch your 'viewability' (how often ads are actually seen) — it should rise.
— 5. Check revenue didn't fall; if it did, widen the trigger distance.
Lazy-loading your top banner is a classic mistake — it delays the ad everyone sees.
In plain English: only lazy-load the ads below the fold, fire them just before they're seen, then watch viewability climb.
