Single deep-dive vs mega-roundup — format strategy

Single deep-dive vs mega-roundup — format strategy

Which review format to build for a given keyword. Picking wrong wastes the whole article.

Single-product deep dive
Pros
— Wins "[product] review" intent — high commercial, low competition tail
— Easy to show real testing; converts warm buyers
Cons
— Tiny traffic ceiling per article
— One affiliate program = one point of failure

Mega-roundup ("best X for Y")
Pros
— Owns the high-volume head term; multiple offers spread risk
— Natural internal-link hub to your deep dives
Cons
— Brutally competitive; needs links to rank
— Shallow per product unless you actually tested each

For: Deep dives to capture cheap brand-name intent and feed roundups. Roundups to chase volume once you have deep dives to link from.

Gotcha nobody mentions: Publishing the roundup first, with no underlying deep dives, gives Google thin "reviewed" claims and nothing to internally link. Build 5-6 deep dives, then the roundup that cites them — that internal mesh is half the ranking.

Bottom line: Start with deep dives, then roundup on top. Never roundup-first on an empty site.
