Every managed network ships a layout that trades some CLS and LCP for more viewable units. But the heaviest configs are usually the aggressive presets you opted into: anchor ads, interstitials, auto-inserted in-content units, sticky video. The lean preset on the same network passes vitals fine and earns 15-20% less.

🚩 Hidden variable: the preset you picked. The network gave you a dial from "fast" to "maximal yield" — the vitals hit is where you set it, not a fixed property of the network.

Not saying ad tech is weightless — saying "the network tanked my vitals" usually means "I chose max yield and didn't read the tradeoff," which is a you-decision wearing a network's name.
