Q: How do I find the gaps in my topic coverage without guessing?
Short answer: compare your cluster against what already ranks, then against the questions real users ask, the gap between those and your published pages is your roadmap.
Guessing leads to writing what's easy, not what completes the topic. Coverage is about closing the holes a knowledgeable reader (and the engine) expects you to fill.
In practice, three sources stacked:
— Pull the subheadings (H2/H3) from the top 5 ranking pages for your pillar term; subtopics that appear repeatedly and aren't on your site are gaps.
— Mine People Also Ask and autocomplete for question-shaped subtopics.
— Check your own search query data for terms you're getting impressions on but have no dedicated page for, that's demand you're half-serving.
List the overlap, subtract what you've covered, and write what's left.
