Category had 4 products and ranked for nothing
Client's category pages were just a grid of products, zero text, and Google treated them as thin doorway pages.
The play:
— Added 150 words of real intro copy above the grid (buying context, not keyword soup)
— Pulled in the top 5 child subcategories as linked cards
— Linked 3 relevant blog posts from the same silo at the bottom
That turns a product grid into a hub page with actual content and outbound internal links. The category started ranking for the head term it was always meant to own.
Caveat: don't dump the copy below the products where users never scroll. Above the fold, short, then the grid. Function first.
