Building an executive thought-leadership cadence: a checklist

Building an executive thought-leadership cadence: a checklist

The question: how do you get a busy executive publishing consistently without it becoming ghostwritten filler that erodes trust?

The Edelman-LinkedIn study found consistency matters less than substance — buyers punish frequent-but-empty content. Yet sporadic posting builds no authority. The fix is a system, not heroics.

The cadence checklist:
— Mine the exec's actual calls and meetings for opinions; don't invent them.
— Capture 15 minutes of voice memo weekly — talking surfaces real positions writing doesn't.
— Ghostwrite the structure, never the opinion; the take must be theirs.
— Hold a floor of one substantive post weekly, not a ceiling of five thin ones.
— Require a defensible position in every post — the 'so what' test.
— Have the exec personally reply to top comments; delegation here is detectable and corrosive.

Limitations: the underlying study is survey-based, capturing stated trust effects, not measured deal impact. Causation between cadence and pipeline is unproven. Treat as directional.

What it means for B2B: a slower cadence of genuine positions beats a fast cadence of safe ones — the data says empty content is a net negative.

Bottom line: systematize the capture, never the conviction — frequency without substance loses deals.
