Q: To help machines understand my entities — schema markup or just clear writing?
Short answer: clear writing does most of the work; schema confirms and disambiguates the entities that have lookalikes.
Search and AI extract entities from well-structured prose surprisingly well — define a thing clearly near its first mention and you've done 80% of the job. Schema (JSON-LD with sameAs to Wikidata/Wikipedia) earns its keep when an entity is ambiguous: a brand that shares a name with a common word, a person, a product line.
In practice: write so a smart reader can tell exactly what each entity is and how it relates to others — that's the foundation. Add schema with sameAs links for your organization, key people, and any entity that could be confused with something else. Don't markup-spam every term; disambiguate the ones that genuinely need it. Prose first, schema as the tie-breaker.
