How to fix a weak hook in under 5 minutes
Q: "People scroll past my posts. I think my openings are boring. How do I fix the first line?"
Short answer: the hook (your first line) has one job, make someone stop. If it's vague, nobody reaches your good stuff.
Run your draft through this:
—
Delete any warm-up sentence. Start at the most interesting line.
—
Name a specific person or moment, not "a lot of people".
—
Trade an abstract claim for a concrete one: "Most bios fail" beats "Branding matters".
—
Read the first line alone. Would YOU keep reading?
Usually your real hook is the second or third sentence you wrote. Cut everything above it.
Try this today: open a draft, delete the first sentence, and see if it starts stronger. Nine times out of ten, it does.
