"My audit tool gave the page a 92, so on-page is handled."
No. You graded yourself with the rubric you bought.
The comparison worth internalizing: a single audit score versus a cross-checked finding. Every on-page auditor — the Ahrefs Site Audit health score, Semrush's, the plugin's traffic light — runs a fixed checklist and weights it by its own opinion. Two tools score the same page 92 and 68 because they weight thin content, missing alt text, and title length differently. Neither number is "the truth."
Use the score for one job: tracking your own site against itself over time. Same tool, same weights, is this month better than last? Fine.
Never use it as an absolute, and never cross-compare scores between tools as if they're the same currency. They're not even the same units.
The real audit is a cross-check: tool flags it, you open the page, you reason about whether it matters for that template and that intent. The score is a flashlight, not a verdict.
(A 100/100 page that targets a keyword nobody searches scored perfectly on everything except the only thing that mattered.)
