AggregateRating vs Review: one of these gets you a manual penalty

AggregateRating vs Review: one of these gets you a manual penalty
Both show stars, so teams treat them interchangeably. They're not — and self-serving review markup is an explicit Google policy violation. AggregateRating summarizes many ratings; Review is a single critique. The trap: marking up a Review or AggregateRating about your own organization or service, on your own site.
— Reviews of products you sell: fine, AggregateRating from real customer reviews
— Reviews of YOUR business/service on your OWN page: prohibited, risks structured-data manual action
— Third-party reviews you're republishing: cite the source, never claim them as first-party
What it means for you: that 4.9-star AggregateRating you added to your homepage about your own company is the exact pattern Google's self-serving rule targets. Move it to genuine product pages with verifiable reviews. Watch this: self-serving review markup remains one of the more actively enforced structured-data violations — sources in the SERPs report manual actions still landing on it.
