The pre-publish pass, every time, no exceptions
Run this before anything goes out. It takes a minute and catches the errors that cost you the whole post.
— Watch it with sound off. If it makes no sense, add text where the meaning lives, not everywhere.
— Watch it with sound on and the screen ignored. Does the audio carry the idea alone?
— Look at the first frame. It is a thumbnail whether you chose one or not.
— Read the caption as a stranger. Does it repeat the video or add to it? It should add.
— Check text placement against the interface. Anything near the edges gets covered by buttons.
— Confirm the payoff is actually in the video rather than implied by it.
— Say the title out loud. If you would be embarrassed saying it to a colleague, rewrite it.
Then publish and stop fiddling. Editing after publishing is mostly anxiety with a keyboard attached.
