Ahrefs/Site Audit index check vs GSC: trust the source
Third-party crawlers (Ahrefs, Sitebulb, Semrush) flag "indexable" status, but that's a prediction, not Google's verdict.
Ahrefs Site Audit marks a page indexable if it has no noindex/canonical/robots block. GSC tells you whether it's actually indexed, which can differ wildly because of quality, duplication, or crawl budget.
Pros (Ahrefs): scans 1000s of URLs for technical blockers in one crawl, great for catching the cause.
Cons (Ahrefs): can't see Google's index; "indexable" pages may still be "Crawled - not indexed."
Pros (GSC): ground truth.
Cons (GSC): slow, sampled, no bulk technical reasons.
Best for: Ahrefs/Sitebulb to find technical reasons a page can't be indexed, GSC to confirm what Google decided. Never report "indexed" off a third-party crawler to a client. NOT a substitute for GSC. 3.5/5 as a pre-filter.
