Search Console vs Analytics: which one actually drives decisions
Month 2: I lived inside Google Analytics. Pretty graphs, bounce rates, time-on-page. I optimized for lower bounce and felt productive.
The turn came Month 5. A page with a "terrible" 82% bounce rate was quietly my third-best earner — people read the review, clicked the affiliate link, and left. Bounce was a vanity metric punishing my best content.
I switched my morning routine to Search Console. Different questions entirely: which queries am I ranking position 8-15 for? That's where the money hides. I found 30 keywords stuck on page 2 with real volume.
Month 8: I rewrote intros and added FAQ blocks targeting those exact queries. 11 of them jumped to page 1. Traffic 14k → 23k. Analytics never would've surfaced that — it only shows traffic you already have.
The takeaway: Analytics tells you what visitors did, Search Console tells you what visitors you're ALMOST getting. For ranking decisions, position data beats behavior data every time. Stop optimizing bounce rate.
