Flat vs siloed — when flat actually wins
Everyone screams 'silo everything'. I un-siloed a 50-page site and traffic went up.
— Siloed: tight topical folders, links stay inside the silo. Great for a 2,000-page authority site with clear topic clusters.
— Flat: everything 1-2 clicks from home, links cross freely. Wins on small sites where you don't have the page count to feed deep silos.
The call: under ~150 pages? Go flat, let every page borrow homepage equity. Over a few thousand with distinct topics? Silo, or you'll bleed relevance across unrelated stuff.
Don't silo a thin site — you'll just isolate weak pages from the only authority you have.
