Q: To find which pages I forgot to redirect, do I trust Ahrefs or Search Console?
Smart to ask — they catch different gaps, and using only one is how orphaned URLs slip through.
Short answer: Search Console for pages Google actually ranked; Ahrefs/backlink tools for pages other sites still link to.
Long answer:
GSC's Pages report (and Performance) shows what was earning impressions on the old structure. Export those, check each returns a 301 — these are your traffic-protecting redirects.
But GSC won't list URLs that had links yet little Google traffic. Ahrefs/Majestic 'Best by links' surfaces those — old pages holding backlinks you must redirect to keep the equity.
Server logs are the third source: they reveal what's still being requested in the wild, including by bots.
Next step: pull 'top pages' from GSC and 'best by links' from your backlink tool, merge, dedupe, and confirm every URL redirects.
