Switching themes without surprises (a 6-step playbook)
Your theme is the outfit your site wears. Changing it can hide content if you rush. Do it gently.
1. Back up your site first.
2. Before switching, note your current menus and which widgets sit in the sidebar, because these can reset.
3. Install the new theme but click Preview, not Activate. Preview lets you look without going live.
4. Walk through the preview: homepage, a blog post, your contact page.
5. Happy? Now Activate.
6. Rebuild your menus under Appearance, Menus, and re-place widgets under Appearance, Widgets.
Do this at a quiet hour, not during your busiest traffic.
In plain words: try the outfit on in the mirror (Preview) before walking out the door (Activate).
