Finding insert targets: Ahrefs gaps vs. GSC-mined pages
Prospecting tooling came up across a few threads, and the two camps want different things.
— Worth a read: an SEO newsletter walked through Ahrefs' Content Gap to find pages already ranking page 1-2 for your topic, then pitching an insert into those. Strength: you target relevance and existing equity at once.
— Counterpoint, from a Reddit thread: people running their own sites mine Search Console for their own decaying URLs — pages that already rank but lost a position or two — and sell inserts into those. The buyer gets a page Google already trusts, not a cold prospect.
— Also circulating: a small-tools take favoring Sitebulp/Screaming Frog crawls of a donor to confirm the target page is internally linked, not an orphan.
Editor's note: Ahrefs finds the universe of options; the seller's own GSC finds the ones that actually move.
Pick of the week: if you can buy from an owner with GSC proof, take the page with a real impression history.
