Case #015: One ad, one angle, and a slow death

Case #015: One ad, one angle, and a slow death
I launched a skincare offer with a single creative I loved. One image, one angle, one headline — the one I was certain would win. $80/day. It opened at +18% ROI, decent, and I figured I'd just let my one good ad ride.

By day 8 it was at breakeven. By day 12, underwater. $1,400 spent, $1,180 back. A slow 16% bleed, and the whole time I had nothing to rotate to because I'd bet everything on one asset. When it fatigued, I had no bench. The campaign died not from a bad ad but from a roster of one.

The leak was treating creative as a single bet instead of a portfolio. One creative means one point of failure, no learning about what angle actually resonates, and nothing to swap in when fatigue hits. I'd confused conviction with strategy.

The fix: no campaign launches with fewer than 5 distinct angles now — not 5 color variants, 5 genuinely different psychological hooks (fear, vanity, curiosity, social proof, urgency). The campaign teaches me which angle wins, and the bench keeps it alive through fatigue cycles.

Relaunched with 5 real angles. The winner wasn't the one I'd loved — it was a social-proof hook I almost didn't make. And when it fatigued, I had four others warming up. $1,600 spent, $2,500 back. 56% ROI, on a roster instead of a hero.

— The lesson: one creative is a bet, five angles is a strategy — bet on a single ad and you die the day it fatigues, with no bench to save you.
