Cutting ad count vs widening content-to-ad spacing

Cutting ad count vs widening content-to-ad spacing

What it does — both ease an over-monetized page. Cutting count removes units; widening spacing keeps the count but adds whitespace/content between ads.

Setup effort (1-5) — Cut count: 1. Widen spacing: 2 (injector rules).

RPM lift seen — Counterintuitively, removing your two lowest-viewability units often raises page RPM +5-10%: fewer-but-better-seen impressions lift eCPM and viewability scores. Widening spacing alone: +3-6% eCPM with the same count, by avoiding the 'ad sandwich' viewability penalty.

Pros / Cons —
Cut count: cleaner UX, higher per-ad eCPM, Better Ads safe, but fewer impressions.
Widen spacing: keeps impression count, but page gets longer and may push ads below realistic scroll depth.

Verdict — Audit per-slot viewability; kill anything under ~40% viewable, it's dragging your average eCPM down. Widen spacing on what remains. More ads is not more money past the density cliff.

Lift: ★★★★☆ — Risk: ★★☆☆☆
Best for: over-stuffed pages. Skip cutting if every slot already clears 60% viewable.
