The mistake: comparing revenue and ignoring the rev-share
The claim: "Ezoic and Mediavine both netted me roughly the same, so it's a wash."
The asterisk: "netted" needs to mean after the network's cut. Flat-rate ad networks, percentage rev-shares, and tiered models hide different amounts of gross. Your payout is gross × keep-rate, and keep-rates differ.
🚩 Hidden variable: the take-rate. Two networks can show identical gross RPM in the dashboard and pay you meaningfully different amounts.
The fix: compare deposited dollars per thousand visitors — the bank number, not the dashboard number. Back out the rev-share before you call anything a wash.
Not saying either network overcharges — saying comparing gross when you spend net is rigged.
