The comparison-table mistake that quietly destroys trust

The comparison-table mistake that quietly destroys trust

Failure: building a 'Top 5 [tool]' comparison table with pricing/feature columns you fill in once and never touch. SaaS pricing changes quarterly; your table says '$29/mo, no free plan' for a tool that's been $19 with a free tier for eight months. Readers notice immediately — and one wrong cell makes them distrust the whole table. Conversion craters and you blame the niche.

The fix:
— Treat the table as a data source, not prose. Store rows in a structured source (a CMS table, Airtable, or the plugin's data manager) so updates are one place
— Add a visible 'Last updated' date tied to the table, not the post
— Pick a quarterly review cron for your top 10 money tables; calendar it
— For prices that change weekly, link out instead of stating exact figures ('starts under $30 — see live pricing')

Gotcha nobody mentions: AI Overviews and ChatGPT now scrape these tables and quote your stale price back to users as fact — a wrong cell becomes a wrong answer in the AI's mouth, with your domain cited.

Bottom line: a comparison table is a maintenance commitment; if you can't keep cells current, link out instead of stating numbers.
