Speed ramps are a worse pacing tool than a hard cut, and editors reach for them to look skilled
A ramp draws attention to the edit itself, which pulls the viewer OUT of the content for half a second. A hard cut is invisible and does the same compression with zero cognitive tax. Flashy transitions are tax you pay on attention.
— Ramp when the motion IS the point
— Hard cut for everything you just want shorter
Invisible editing retains. Showing off doesn't.
